Gyohei Zaitsu (geb.1977 in Tokio) ist ein japanischer Butoh-Künstler, der seit 1999 in Paris lebt. Seine vornehmlich experimentelle Arbeiten werden an vielfältigen Spielorten aufgeführt und er ist ein häufiger und gern gesehener Gast bei Festivals und Künstlertreffen in ganz Europa. Gyohei Zaitsu gibt regelmäßig Butoh Workshops in Paris und anderen Orten Europas und Lateinamerikas.

»Butoh is an avant-garde dance movement born in the late 1950s in Japan. In the process of their work, the founders of Butoh, Tatsumi Hijikata and Kazuo Ohno, mainly focused on the abandoned part (the dark side) of our body.
Through the movement of the dancing body, they did a research about the relationship between the body and all natural phenomenon, between life and death, soul and body, order and chaos, purity and dirt, humanity and nonhumanity, reality and fiction, the visible and the invisible, daily movement and dance, holiness and banality, and much more.

In the workshop, we are also going to do an individual research with our own bodies, inspired by their point of view on the relationship between the body and its environment. Each participant will observe his or her own body as a unique space of laboratory where any kind of movement can happen and go through. I hope that we can touch the mystery of our being through the dance and that a new Butoh dance will be born through our actions.«
